Blow flies

Also called “dung flies”, they are easy to recognize because of their metallic bottle green or blue body. These flies lay their eggs on excrements, carcasses and other rotting animal matter. If you find some inside, they might indicate the presence of rodents or birds in a structural void in the building. An accumulation of undesirable organic matter somewhere in the building could also be the cause. A blow fly infestation is often recognized by the discovery of their maggots (larvae), which can be found all over.

Unfortunately, these flies are carriers of various disease and pathogens because they lay their eggs on rotting matter and land on surfaces that offer interesting food. For example, adults can feed on the nectar from flowers or any source of sugar present in the building, whether it is a home, restaurant or any other type of business.
